Selina (@diieselly) knew that she had to change her unhealthy lifestyle and came across yoga four years ago. Why she learned so much through yoga and how discipline showed her what it means to live again, she told us in a very interesting conversation.
I have been practicing yoga since January 2016. My lifestyle was simply unhealthy and I wanted to feel good again. After changing my diet, I discovered yoga by chance. With Wii Fit, I wanted to keep myself fit through play, so I tested yoga there too. I was thrilled right away and ordered everything I needed right away. In the beginning, I did a lot of research on YouTube, Instagram, in books and with other yogis and yoga teachers. A new lifestyle began for me.
I like to practice the classical Hatha very much, but it can also go to Ashtanga / Vinyasa Yoga. I love to combine different forms of Yoga. I listen to my body, whether I need something more quiet or more power exercises. I have also tried Aerial-, Yin Yoga and Ashtanga.
My perfect yoga class is always accompanied by music, mostly nature music or yoga music. Depending on the mood I also light a scented candle. What I never miss is warm tea or cold water. I always practice on a non-slip yoga mat and depending on the exercises I also use aids such as blocks, feetup, parellets, a seat cushion or yoga belts.
What fascinates me about yoga is the infinite learning. You can constantly improve yourself and set new goals.
Through yoga I was allowed to learn an enormous amount. The mindfulness, patience, self-love and of course the practice. It is incredible how my attitude towards life and myself has changed since then.
I had an eating disorder and in addition several food intolerances, which severely limited me. At that time I had no self-confidence at all. It was all about meeting the ideal of beauty, being thin and perfect. Yoga showed me what it means to live again. I became more self-confident, more patient and since then I can deal better with my intolerances. I became more grateful for life and the people who accompany me. I also realized what is good for me and what is not, and what I want to achieve in life. My complete view of life has changed and I feel like a new person.
I have not yet completely overcome my eating disorder, but I feel good in my body. I am perfect as I am, despite stretch marks and bloated stomach.
Yoga is a trend, but once you have tried it, you will love it! Many friends of mine thought at first that yoga was boring. But I could convince them and now they love it too. Yoga is much more than just a sport, more and more people realize that. It is about coming to terms with yourself. Besides the physical challenge, there are so many other reasons why it is worth doing yoga regularly.
I already give my friends tips for yoga and stretching. Actually I wanted to do my first yoga training in March 2020. But I had to postpone it. Why, you will soon find out on my Instagram profile @diieselly.
Think not so much about what you lack, but what you have.
I would like to focus more on sustainability, personal development and the history of yoga and expand my practice. I would like to gain even more insights and knowledge.
My goal is to be as happy at the end of the year as I am now.
My dream is to marry my boyfriend, start a family and adopt a dog in addition to my cats. It is important for me to continue to spend a lot of time with my loved ones and to continue to be grateful for what I have.
With regard to yoga, I would like to become even fitter and do yoga training and further education.
Yoga can improve your flexibility, stability, stamina, coordination, posture and even your self-confidence. It reduces back pain and tension. Yoga is also a good way to relax. By breathing correctly, you become calmer and learn to deal with stress better.
I love my Purple Leaves yoga mat! The design, the colours and the quality are just super. Recently I also ordered the yoga blocks from LUVIYO.
